Obituary of John V. DePaolo
John V. DePaolo, age 86, of Brooklyn passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026. Mr. DePaolo was born October 9, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY. He is the son of the late John and the late Louise (nee Mellone) DePaolo.
John dedicated his life to serving his country and his city with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment. He was a proud member of the New York City Police Department, later continuing his distinguished career as a Lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department. In addition to his work in public safety, John served as a Registered Nurse with both the FDNY and the United States Army Reserve, blending compassion with bravery in every role he held.
John rose to the rank of Sergeant Major in the United States Army Reserves and was activated in support of Operation Desert Storm. His leadership, discipline, and steadfast character earned him the respect of all who served beside him.
Beyond his many professional accomplishments, John's greatest pride was his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Lorraine, for 63 beautiful years, a testament to enduring love, partnership, and devotion. He was the cherished father of John Paul and Rosemary, and a beloved father-in-law to Neil Anthony and Jamie Marie. John was a proud grandfather to Neil Joseph, Nicholas Anthony, and John "Johnny" Steven, and a joyful great-grandfather to Neil Lawrence and Madeleine. John is the beloved brother to Paul DePaolo and the late Margie Donohue.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast integrity, deep love for his family, and extraordinary lifetime of service to others. His life stands as a powerful example of dedication, to country, to community, and above all, to family.
Calling hours will be Monday, March 2 from 2:00 – 5:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, Inc., 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 3 at St. Columba R.C. Church, 2245 Kimball Street, Brooklyn, NY.
Entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
