Maura Distabile

Obituary of Maura Distabile

Surrounded by her loving family, Maura Fitzpatrick Distabile passed away on February 27, 2026, during a beautiful sunset.

Born in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn on September 11, 1959 to Bernadette Fitzpatrick (neé Cassidy) and John Fitzpatrick, Maura graduated from Dominican Academy, and Fordham University, class of 1981. Her “Fordham Girls” held a special place in her heart and continued to be lifelong friends.

After completing school, she settled down to raise her family. As her children grew, she became the resident family tutor. She spent many nights helping her beloved extended family with all things school-related. Her nephews Jack, Joseph, Tim, and Matthew as well as many of their friends benefited from Aunt Maura’s grammatical and editing expertise. As they grew her resume writing skills were also in evidence as she cleaned up run-on sentences and eliminated unnecessary vocabulary. When she wasn’t editing, she served as part-time chauffeur, and cheerleader. One of her favorite pastimes was attending her tribe’s sporting events. From the bleachers to the field, she could be heard cheering on her niece, nephews and their friends.

While she held many titles in her life, “Gram” was her most important role. Her grandchildren, Charlotte, Henry, William and Caroline adored her silly songs and wild FaceTime antics.

She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Tara Krause (Adam) and Dana Distabile. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brother Dennis (Trish), sister Megan Moran (Joseph), sister Deidre Murtagh (Patrick) and her beloved nephews Jack, Joseph, Tim, Matt, Denis, and Patrick and niece Molly.

Over the course of her life, Maura quietly donated to many noble causes and the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Doctors Without Borders.
